Helmets on Patrol
The Helmets on Patrol program is a collaboration between Colusa County law enforcement and CAPC. The goal of the program is to ensure that no child in Colusa County is injured as a result of not wearing a helmet while riding their bike.
Research has shown that a properly filled bicycle helmet can reduce the risk of head injuries by 85% and reduce bicycle related fatalities among children by 75%. In Colusa County law enforcement estimates that approximately 50% of children and adolescents do not wear helmets or wear helmets that are not properly fitted or fastened. All children 18 years of age and under must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet while riding their bicycles on the street. This not only saves lives but
It's the Law!
As a result of the Helmets on Patrol program officers will be carrying a variety of bicycle helmets in their vehicles. When they see a child without a helmet they will provide them with one, make sure it fits and give the child information to take home to their parents. The bicycle helmet is given to the child completely free of charge!
